Search and Rescue event postponed by Icelandic volcano finally gets go-ahead

Search and Rescue 2010 will take place at the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre (AECC), five months after it was postponed due to the Icelandic volcano.

The exhibition and conference will take place from 15-16 September and is a gathering of international search and rescue experts covering air, maritime, mountain and urban environments.

"There was widespread disruption to Scottish airports in the spring after volcanic ash drifted over from Iceland," said AECC managing director Brian Horsburgh.

"We are delighted that the event could be rescheduled and look forward to welcoming international delegates to the AECC."

Alexander Giles, CEO of event organiser The Shephard Group, said Aberdeen was chosen as the venue partly because it is home to the UK’s oil and gas industry, making search and rescue a vital cog in the city’s machinery.
