My Event World - Kate McIntosh

Kate McIntosh, sales manager at It's The Agency, on trips to Vegas and her dislike of hotel event spaces.
I have worked here since 2004 after completing a degree in leisure and hospitality management at Birmingham University. I was then actually able to put theory into practice.
I was attracted to this particular role because it is based in one of the greatest cities in the world, working with the most reputable caterer I knew, in some of the most exclusive, unique and historic venues in London.
Not many people know that I played football in the Youth Olympics when I was 16.
My worst experience at an event was sliding (in heels) across an oak floor, which had just been polished, with a tray of champagne glasses in hand, in front of 300 guests. A real Kodak moment, I am told.
If there’s one thing I’ve learnt it’s people buy people not companies.
The best event I’ve been involved in was Buckingham Palace garden parties for Chester Boyd.
If I could do it all over again I would not change a thing.
The one thing I can’t stand is people who do not deliver what they have promised.
Outside of work I spend my time playing sport, socialising, networking, travelling and thoroughly enjoying life.
If money were no object I would fly myself and a group of friends business class to Las Vegas for a long weekend, and stay in a suite at the Winn Hotel.
The one event I will never miss is V festival, dependent this year on whether my tickets arrive from a not-so-official website...
The recession has meant that I have become more aware of how I need to be challenged and how results-driven I am. The strong, honest successful brands (regardless of size) have survived through hard work, loyalty and commitment to their business.
The next 12 months will be positive, challenging, progressive and damn hard work. In addition to the recession, we have just launched It’s The Agency, an events solution service from Chester Boyd, and moved offices, so I don’t expect much sleep over the next six months at least.
If I could switch places with anyone else in the industry it would be my boss, she has the best events management team in the business.
If I ruled the event industry I would not permit the usage of hotels for any event held in London ever. Venues can offer so much more personality, individuality and flexibility with space.
